Maldives President affirms bridge toll charges not part of his policies

Male: Maldives President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has affirmed that charging tolls for bridge usage is not part of his administration’s policies.

Taking to social media, President Muizzu assured that his policies does not include charging tolls for bridge usage and clarified that the commissioning of a technical-level research on charging tolls for bridge usage was included within the Malé Fahi Programme to provide an advisory opinion.

Furthermore, President Muizzu detailed that even if the technical-level research suggests charging tolls for bridge usage, such a decision would not be implemented prior to first developing the roads of Malé City, resolving the parking issues, and improving the economic situation of the people and the nation to an acceptable level.

The Malé Fahi Programme, aims to effectively address the congestion caused in the greater Malé region due to the increase of vehicles occupying the streets. The programme initiated by the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation is divided into three major components; automobile registration through rules and regulations, limiting the number of vehicles and enhancing public transportation facilities, as well as making roadways safer, easier, and more tranquil for pedestrians.
