The Prime Minister of Bangladesh has sought the cooperation of Japan for the functioning of the damaged metro station

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has sought cooperation from Japan to reopen the two metro rail stations that were damaged in Mirpur-10 and Kazipara.

On Saturday, Japanese Ambassador to Bangladesh Aiwama Kiminori paid a courtesy call on him at the Prime Minister’s office and sought this assistance.

After the meeting, Prime Minister’s Press Secretary Mohammad Naemul Islam Khan briefed the journalists.

The Japanese ambassador said that they will first assess the damage to the metrorail stations and then decide how they can help Bangladesh to reopen the stations.

Japan’s ambassador has expressed his condolences over the casualties caused by the massive riots across the country centered on the quota reform movement.

In the meeting, the Prime Minister said that miscreants have damaged government facilities built for public welfare, security and service.

Sheikh Hasina said that they attacked only those structures which were beneficial to the people and those were the targets of the attackers. It is very difficult for me.

He said that in the last 15 years they have built the structures by working tirelessly.

The Japanese ambassador said his country’s businessmen are looking forward to the upcoming EPA talks at the Public Private Economic Dialogue to be held in Tokyo in the second half of August. He expressed hope that the law and order situation will be normalized before the dialogue.

This, he said, would help the dialogue to be held successfully.

Speaking about the damaged metro rail station, Ambassador Kiminori became emotional and said, “A handful of people are behind the attack on the metro rail and a large number of people are the beneficiaries.”

The ambassador said, many people have sweat and tears in the construction of Metrorail. Saw the vandalism of Metrorail stations – which pained him greatly.

Advisor to the Prime Minister Salman Fazlur Rahman and Ambassador at Large M Ziauddin, Chief Secretary M Tofazzal Hossain Mia and Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Masud Bin Momen were present in the meeting.
