Death toll in Kerala landslide rises to 308

The death toll from the devastating landslides in the southern Indian state of Kerala has risen to 308. More than three hundred people are still missing in this incident.

The Economic Times reported this information in a report on Friday (August 2).

Several landslides occurred in the hilly areas of Wanar district of the state in the early hours of last Tuesday (July 30). At least three landslides occurred in Meppadi, Mundakal Town and Churalmala.

According to the report, rescue operations are underway at the accident site. Rescue workers are trying to rescue those trapped in the rubble. State Health Minister Veena George has confirmed the death of 308 people. He said, rescue operations are still continuing in several areas.

Kerala ADGP (Law and Order) Ajith Kumar said that 300 people are still missing in the landslide incident. However, the final number can be confirmed only after collecting detailed information, he said.

Amid heavy rains and natural calamities, the Army, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), personnel of the Kerala Disaster Response Force, state emergency services personnel and local people are carrying out rescue operations.

Meanwhile, Wayanad is separated from other districts by road due to bridge collapse and road damage. Rescue operations are being hampered by heavy rains and the collapse of an important bridge.

The relief fund of the Prime Minister’s Office of India has been announced to provide Rs. 2 lakh to the families of each victim and Rs.
