Sheikh Hasina left Bangladesh in the face of massive mass movement on August 5. On that day, Army Chief General Waqar-uz-Zaman said that she had resigned from the post of Prime Minister before leaving the country, although Awami League president’s son Sajib Wazed Joy claimed that his mother did not resign.
Sheikh Hasina said on Sunday, “I have resigned so that I don’t have to see the procession of dead bodies.” They wanted to come to power with the bodies of the students, but I did not allow it, resigned from the post of Prime Minister. I could have remained in power if I had surrendered the sovereignty of the island of St. Martin and allowed America to dominate the Bay of Bengal. He further said, ‘If I had stayed in the country, more lives would have been lost, more property would have been destroyed. I made the very difficult decision to leave. I have become your leader. Because you have chosen me, you have been my strength’.
Accepting the defeat, Sheikh Hasina said to the supporters and party workers that she is committed to return to the country.
