The rape and murder of a young doctor at the RG Kar Hospital in Kolkata, India, has again sparked a state-wide and India-wide movement of rape and murder. This time, a 33-year-old nurse is the victim of brutality. The police have arrested the accused in this incident.
The incident took place in Uttarakhand’s Udham Singh Nagar district on Tuesday (July 30). NDTV reported this information in a report on Thursday (August 15).
An accused named Dharmendra Kumar was arrested on August 14 in this incident. Accused Dharmendra Kumar is a resident of Bareilly and is a daily labourer. He is accused of sexually assaulting and murdering a nurse on her way home from the hospital.
According to reports, the victim nurse worked in a private hospital in Nainital. Dharmendra found him alone while returning home from the hospital on the day of the incident and started following him. After that, they forced her behind a bush and raped her and later strangled her to death.
The nurse lived with her 11-year-old daughter in a rented house in Bilaspur, Uttar Pradesh. The sister of the deceased nurse lodged a complaint with the local police station on Wednesday (July 31) after she did not return home the previous night.
The police recovered the body of the nurse on August 8. His body was found in an empty plot in Uttar Pradesh’s Rampur district.
Police arrested the accused Dharmendra from Rajasthan after tracking the victim’s phone.
The accused is a drug addict and does not know the nurse. On the day of the incident, he saw her walking alone and stopped the nurse.
Senior Superintendent of Police Manjunath TC of Udham Singh Nagar said that Dharmendra dragged the nurse to the nearby forest. After the rape, she was strangled to death with the nurse’s veil.
This police officer also said that Dharmendra also stole Rs 3,000 from the nurse’s hand bag.
The incident comes amid nationwide protests over the rape and murder of a female trainee doctor while on duty at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Last week, the half-naked body of the 31-year-old woman was found in the seminar hall of the government hospital.
