Big collapse in Modi's popularity, Rahul's support increased

The resurgence of the opposition parties, especially the Indian Congress, was incredible in this year’s Lok Sabha elections in India. In the following days, the Parliament of India was heated on various issues. The opposition has expressed deep concern over various steps taken by the government. All this has an impact on the popularity of Narendra Modi who is in power for the third consecutive term.

India Today’s ‘Mood of the Nation’ (MOTN) survey showed that Modi’s popularity rating has dropped by at least two percentage points in the last six months. However, compared to August 2020, the Indian Prime Minister’s public support is much lower now. At that time, the BJP leader’s popularity rating reached a maximum of 78 points. Last February its rate was 60.5 percent and currently it has further reduced to 58.6 percent.

The survey also showed that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has narrowed the gap with Narendra Modi in the race to become the next Prime Minister of India. In this case, 49 percent of the participants voted for Modi. And 22.4 percent people like Rahul Gandhi.

That is, Modi’s public support has decreased by six percentage points compared to last February, while Rahul’s public support has increased by eight percentage points.

The ‘Mood of the Nation’ survey also said that if the elections were held at this moment, the number of seats of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) would have remained almost unchanged. However, the opposition party Congress would have crossed the milestone of 100 seats.

According to the survey, if the elections were held now, the seats of the NDA alliance would have increased by six to 299. And the opposition alliance India’s seat was reduced by one to 233.

This survey was conducted on 40 thousand 591 participants from all the Lok Sabha constituencies of India from July 15 to August 10. A company called Civotar was in charge of conducting the survey.
