Nepal PM Oli issues stern directives to curb corruption

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has directed various agencies to work effectively in curbing corruption and controlling smuggling.

On Sunday, during a meeting at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, the PM issued directives to top-ranking officials from the Department of Revenue Investigation, Department of Money Laundering Investigation, Public Procurement Monitoring Office, National Vigilance Centre, Nepal Trust, National Investigation Department, and other agencies, urging them to take decisive action against smuggling and the misuse of state resources, according to the PM’s Secretariat.At the annual review meeting, PM Oli reminded the officials of past incidents of gold smuggling through Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) and emphasized that significant revenue losses and the proliferation of illicit activities were the result of negligence by the concerned agencies.

“Such activities will no longer be tolerated. Unchecked smuggling is unacceptable,” PM Oli asserted, instructing the officials to fulfill their responsibilities diligently. He urged them to protect the nation from further harm and to foster hope and confidence.The Prime Minister also clarified that these agencies were brought under the PMO to ensure better performance. Additionally, he emphasized the need to create an environment that generates job opportunities for the youth within the country.”Good governance and development must be accompanied by adherence to democratic norms and values,” the PM stated.Prime Minister’s Economic and Development Advisor Dr. Yubraj Khatiwada, National Planning Commission Vice Chairman Prof. Dr. Shivaraj Adhikari, Chief Secretary Liladevi Gadtaula, and other government secretaries were present at the meeting.
