Why did Modi apologize?

Just eight months ago, Narendra Modi inaugurated the 35-feet tall Chhatrapati Shivaji statue in Maharashtra, India at Mahadhumdham. But a few days ago in this month, that statue collapsed. There was a storm of criticism across the state. This time, Modi has expressed regret over the incident. Prime Minister of India said, I apologize to Shivaji Maharaj and all those whose sentiments were hurt by the demolition of his statue.

“The moment I landed here, I first apologized to Shivaji for the fall of the idol,” Modi said at Palghar in Maharashtra on Friday. Apologies to the people who were injured due to the collapse of this statue.

Modi also said, ‘I bow my head and apologize to those who consider Shivaji as their god and were hurt by the idol’s collapse. Our values are different. Nothing is greater to us than our God.

Modi visited Palghar on Friday to lay the foundation stone of the Tk 74,000 crore Bandhan Port project. There he said, in 2013, BJP announced me as the prime ministerial candidate. And the first thing I did was, I sat as a devotee at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s Samadhi in Raigarh and started a new journey. To me and my colleagues Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is not just a name, he is God to us. I prostrate at the feet of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj seeking forgiveness.

According to Indian media reports, on August 26, a 35-foot statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji collapsed in Sindhudurg district of Maharashtra. The purpose of the statue was to honor the Maratha Navy’s legacy of maritime defense and security, Chhatrapati Shivaji’s legacy, and establish a historical link with the modern Indian Navy.

However, after just eight months of inauguration, this statue collapsed and several people were injured. The ruling Shiv Sena government came under fire from the opposition. Alleging corruption in the construction of the statue, they are demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
