Washington will work closely with the interim government of Bangladesh

The US will support Bangladesh’s interim government and strengthen relations with Dhaka on various issues, said the country’s charge d’affaires Helen Lafave. At this time, he highlighted the attitude of the United States government.

During the meeting, Lafave said, the United States is happy to congratulate the chief adviser of the interim government. He expressed hope that Dhaka and Washington will be able to work more closely in the coming days.

He said the US Embassy in Dhaka will resume consular services this week to speed up the visa process. Thousands of Bangladeshi students are currently studying in various universities in the United States. Helen LaFave mentioned that the United States will closely assist Bangladesh in health, education, labor, rule of law and Rohingya issues. He said that Washington has already started the resettlement of Rohingyas in the United States and he expressed hope that this process will be faster. The amount of monthly food aid to the Rohingya has increased as a result of increased financial assistance from the United States this year. He urged Rohingyas to create livelihood opportunities.

The Chief Advisor thanked Washington for the support of the United States in Bangladesh and said that in terms of multi-dimensional support of the United States, the issue of continuing financial support to more than one million Rohingya living in the camps of Cox’s Bazar is worth mentioning. At this time, Professor Muhammad Yunus urged the donor groups to form a ‘common platform’ and continue their coordinated efforts to stand by the flood-affected people in Bangladesh.

General elections will be held in Bangladesh after a reasonable period of time, the chief adviser told the US diplomat, noting that the interim government had taken responsibility for carrying out radical reforms.

During the meeting, US Charge d’Affaires Helen LaFave expressed some concern about Bangladesh’s labor situation and minority issues. At the time, the chief adviser said that every citizen of Bangladesh is ‘protected by the constitution’ and the interim government is committed to protecting the human rights of all citizens. Human rights issues, Cyber ​​Security Act, RAB and various issues of mutual interest were discussed during the meeting.

Lafave said his government is trying to help establish a prosecutorial service in Bangladesh to ensure justice.
