Islamic Emirate Responds to Accusations of Neglecting Regional Relations
The Iranian ambassador and special representative for Afghanistan, Hassan Kazemi Qomi, in an interview with an Iranian media outlet, discussed Afghanistan’s foreign relations, stating that the interim government prioritizes its ties with regional countries over those beyond the region.
In the interview, Qomi noted that merely combating Daesh is insufficient, stressing that action should also be taken against other groups. He further highlighted the importance of the Islamic Emirate focusing on strengthening relations with regional countries. “This is the weakness of the interim government,” Qomi remarked. “Although situated in the region, like Iran, it aspires to broader transregional relations. The current interim government has not yet been able to sufficiently set the stage for a strategic dialogue.”
In response, Hafiz Zia Ahmad Takal, Deputy Spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that the Islamic Emirate has, over the past three years, successfully expanded its relations with neighboring, regional, and global countries to promote stability and safeguard national interests.
“In the past three years, the Islamic Emirate has expanded its relations with neighboring, regional, and global countries,” Takal said. “These relations have been effective in promoting national interests and aiding in the reconstruction of Afghanistan and the region.”
Political analyst Idris Mohammadi Zazi told TOLOnews, “The Islamic Emirate views the world uniformly, whether they are diplomats or political representatives. It’s important for the Islamic Emirate to avoid adopting policies that discriminate between diplomats or political representatives.”
“Iran and Pakistan, as Afghanistan’s neighbors, often employ dual policies regarding Afghanistan, and their unified stance on the country remains unclear,” said Jannat Faheem Chakari, another political analyst.
These comments come as the Islamic Emirate has consistently emphasized that its relations with global countries are growing, with 39 diplomatic representations now active worldwide.
