Imran Khan found guilty in May 9 attack case, bail cancelled

A court has found Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan guilty in the May 9, 2023 violence. His bail has also been cancelled in 8 related cases.

An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Lahore gave this verdict on Saturday (November 30).

Lahore ATC Judge Manzar Ali Gill said in a written verdict today,

There is strong evidence against Imran Khan. Which includes audio and video recordings. Which prove his role in inciting the violence.

He also said that witnesses in the Zaman Park conspiracy have given their testimonies. Where it is alleged that Imran incited his supporters to violence.

The evidence suggests that Imran Khan planned to disrupt the state machinery if he was arrested.

The prosecution claimed that Imran Khan’s plan included attacks on military installations, government buildings and police stations. The violence against police officers on May 11, 2023, took place on his instructions. The testimony of some undercover police officers revealed that they discussed this conspiracy.

However, the defense lawyer argued that Imran Khan was already in custody at the time of the violence. The specific date, time or place of the conspiracy mentioned in the complaint was not mentioned.

However, the court rejected his argument and said that the conspiracy was planned between May 7 and May 9 in Zaman Park, subject to evidence.

The court’s verdict, canceling Imran Khan’s bail in the case, stated that the case against Imran Khan will continue due to the cancellation of his bail. The Lahore High Court has also discussed this conspiracy earlier.

Meanwhile, experts believe that this verdict of the Lahore court can have a major impact on Imran Khan’s political future and Pakistani politics.
