Modi claims December 16 as India’s Victory Day, not Bangladesh

On December 16, 1971, Bangladesh was liberated from the hands of the Pakistani occupying forces. India is claiming that freedom for itself, which was obtained in exchange for the blood of millions of martyrs and the honor of mothers and sisters. Today, Monday (December 16), the country’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted a post on the social media Facebook, referring to Bangladesh’s Victory Day as India’s historic victory.
Instead of greeting Bangladesh on Victory Day, Modi paid tribute to the Indian soldiers by acknowledging their contribution against Pakistan. But he did not mention Bangladesh even once in the post.
Modi wrote in the post, ‘Today, Victory Day. We honor the courage and sacrifice of the brave soldiers who contributed to India’s historic victory in 1971. Their selfless sacrifice and unwavering determination have saved our nation and brought us glory.’
Modi also wrote, ‘This day we pay tribute to their extraordinary heroism and their indomitable spirit. Their sacrifice will forever inspire generations and remain deeply embedded in the history of our nation.’
After Modi’s post, there has been widespread public anger in Bangladesh. Hasnat Abdullah, one of the coordinators of the anti-discrimination movement, and many others have strongly protested against India claiming Bangladesh’s victory over Pakistan. Bangladeshis are also protesting against Modi’s post.
