Bangladesh is buying tanks from Turkey, India is keeping an eye on it

India is keeping an eye on the issue of Bangladesh buying battle tanks from Turkey, said Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs in Delhi. He said this in response to questions from Indian journalists on Friday.
A report in the Hindustan Times said that Bangladesh’s relations with India have been increasing recently over the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government and its sheltering of it. India claims that the minority Hindu community is being persecuted in Bangladesh. Moreover, India is unhappy with the arrest of Chinmoy Krishna Das. Apart from these, relations between India and Bangladesh are now on the decline on various issues.
In such a situation, Bangladesh is buying battle tanks from Turkey. Trade relations are strengthening with Pakistan. In response to media questions on these, Indian Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that India is keeping an eye on Bangladesh.
He said, “We are keeping a close eye on all security-related issues. If necessary, we will take adequate measures.”
Meanwhile, Delhi has also sent a message to Dhaka on the issue of ISKCON leader (expelled) Chinmoy Krishna Das. In this regard, Randhir Jaiswal said, ‘Those who have been arrested in Bangladesh should get a fair trial. This is our main expectation’.
Regarding the extradition of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to Bangladesh, he said, ‘A week ago, I confirmed that we have received a message from Bangladesh regarding former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. After that, I have nothing more to add on this’.
Hindustan Times says that Dhaka had asked Delhi to return Sheikh Hasina only with a ‘verbal note’. However, the Bangladesh government has not completed all the formalities in view of this demand.
According to the Hindustan Times report, there are many important formalities in view of such an extradition demand. However, the Bangladesh government is saying without doing them – ‘It will not send Hasina back to Delhi’.
Amidst all this, India may not respond to Bangladesh’s ‘note verbale’. A top government official, who did not wish to be named, told the media about this.
