Taliban to Trump: No Deal Over Bagram, Honor Doha Agreement
Kabul : The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, in response to remarks by U.S. President Donald Trump regarding Bagram Airbase, stated that instead of repeating failed experiences, approaches based on rationality should be adopted.
The statement emphasized that the Islamic Emirate, guided by Islamic principles, a balanced and economy-oriented foreign policy, and mutual interests, seeks positive relations with all countries.
Hamdullah Fitrat, Deputy Spokesman of the Islamic Emirate, added that under the Doha Agreement, the United States had pledged not to use force or threats against Afghanistan and not to interfere in its internal affairs.
He said: “Under the Doha Agreement, the United States pledged that it will not use or threaten force against the territorial integrity or political independence of Afghanistan, nor interfere in its internal affairs. Therefore, it is necessary that they remain faithful to their commitments.”
At the same time, Fasihuddin Fitrat, Chief of Staff of the Ministry of Defense, stressed that no deal over even an inch of Afghanistan’s soil is possible.
He said: “Recently, some voices claim that we are in talks with the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan to negotiate the return of Bagram Airfield, or that we are seeking a political settlement after failing to take it by force. We assure the people of Afghanistan that no agreement over even an inch of our soil is possible.”
These statements come after Donald Trump recently warned that if the Bagram base is not returned to the U.S., “bad things” will happen.
The U.S. President said: “If Afghanistan doesn’t give Bagram Airbase back to those that built it, the United States of America, BAD THINGS ARE GOING TO HAPPEN.”
Trump had also said a day earlier that negotiations were underway with the current Afghan government to reclaim Bagram Airbase—an assertion the Islamic Emirate dismissed as baseless.
