Kathmandu : Ruwanthi Delpitiya, the newly appointed Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Nepal, presented her Letters of Credence to President Ramchandra Paudel at a formal ceremony held at Rastrapati Bhavan in Kathmandu yesterday.
During their meeting, Ambassador Delpitiya conveyed the warm greetings of Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Disanayaka and expressed appreciation for the longstanding friendship between the two countries. She emphasized the importance of the deep-rooted Buddhist and cultural ties as a strong foundation for expanding collaboration across multiple sectors.
The Ambassador also highlighted her priorities for strengthening economic relations, including boosting bilateral trade and investment, and tapping into the significant potential for tourism between Sri Lanka and Nepal.
President Paudel congratulated Ambassador Delpitiya on her appointment and recalled the enduring relations shared by the two nations, noting that Sri Lanka and Nepal maintained close cultural and religious links even before formal diplomatic relations were established in 1957. He expressed confidence that bilateral ties would be further strengthened during her tenure.
Ambassador Delpitiya joined the Sri Lanka Foreign Service in 2003. She previously served as Director General of the East Asia and International Security Cooperation Divisions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and held overseas postings at Sri Lanka’s embassies in Italy, Japan, and Malaysia, as well as the High Commission in Bangladesh.
She holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from the University of Kelaniya and a Master of International Relations from the University of Colombo. She was accompanied to the ceremony by her spouse, Samantha Delpitiya, Minister of the Sri Lanka Embassy Chameera Munasinghe, and Attaché Kokila Karunarathne.
