Bangladesh interested in Pakistani JF-17 Thunder fighter aircraft

Bangladesh’s relations with Pakistan have been improving since the interim government took power. After the commercial relations, the military partnership between the two countries is also increasing.

A Bangladesh Army delegation visited the General Headquarters (GHQ) of the Pakistan Army in Rawalpindi last Wednesday (January 15) to meet with the Pakistani military leadership. And during that visit, Bangladeshi military officials showed their interest in Pakistan’s JF-17 Thunder fighter aircraft.

A report in The Express Tribune said that a high-level defense delegation from Bangladesh visited Pakistan on Wednesday and met with Pakistan Air Force (PAF) chief, Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Babar Sidhu.

The Pakistani state media also said that the delegation, led by the Principal Staff Officer of the Armed Forces Division of Bangladesh, Lieutenant General SM Kamrul Hasan, expressed deep interest in Pakistan’s advanced military equipment, especially the JF-17 Thunder fighter aircraft.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the meeting was held at the Air Headquarters in Islamabad, where both sides discussed ways to strengthen military ties and enhance cooperation between their air forces.

Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to deepening military partnership with Bangladesh with a focus on joint training programmes and expanding cooperative opportunities.

Lt Gen Hasan praised the Pakistan Air Force’s modern initiatives, its cutting-edge technology and indigenously developed technical infrastructure. He particularly expressed interest in the JF-17 Thunder aircraft along with other modern military hardware.

The report further said that the meeting emphasized the commitment of both countries to enhance military cooperation and strengthen bilateral relations.
