Official sources in the Government of India have disclosed exclusively to Times Now the presence of a Chinese-backed disinformation campaign circulating false narratives about the India-Bhutan relationship, with specific media houses implicated in propagating these misleading claims.

Contrary to the misinformation being spread, India continues to stand as Bhutan’s foremost trade partner, accounting for a substantial 73% of Bhutan’s total trade volume.

Dispelling specific claims made by the disinformation campaign, the government sources clarified that there is no existence of a 220 km long friendship highway built by any Chinese company within Bhutan.

Furthermore, they emphasised that Chinese companies have not been involved in the construction of the Gelephu Gointre Road and Wangdue Trongsa Road in Bhutan.

The government also refuted any Chinese participation in crucial hydel projects, specifically citing that Chinese entities are not involved in the Chukha and Punatsangchhu hydel projects.

The sources categorically stated that there are no ongoing discussions or plans concerning rail connectivity between China and Bhutan, further dispelling any speculations or misinformation on this matter.
