China to provide 21 drones to Nepal Police
They will be useful for taking photos, videos of crowd activities and natural disasters, police say.
Kathmandu: The government has decided to accept the 21 remote-controlled drones from China. A Cabinet meeting on Tuesday decided to receive the assistance provided by the government of Tibet for use by the Nepal Police.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has decided to accept the drones provided as a grant from the Public Security Department of the Tibet Autonomous Region of China, reads the Cabinet decision released on Wednesday.
During a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Home Affairs Narayan Kaji Shrestha on May 8, the Chinese ambassador, Cheng Song, had communicated that China would provide 21 drones to the Nepal Police.
According to the statement issued after the meeting, Shrestha had thanked the Chinese ambassador for the announcement. Shrestha said an arrangement will be made to ship the drones to Nepal soon.
These are normal drones to be used for taking photographs, videos and to capture other movements of the mass, and natural disasters, according to Nepal Police spokesman DIG Kuber Kadayat.
The DPM and the Chinese ambassador also discussed mutual legal assistance between Nepal and China, the need for regular meetings between district security bodies along the Nepal-China border and enhancing the coordination between border security forces of the two neighbours. Nepal and China had signed the mutual legal assistance agreement during the state visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to Nepal in October, 2019.
