Delhi Congress chief resigns

India’s main opposition party Trinamool Congress has faced a major setback in the Lok Sabha elections in India. Delhi Congress chief Arvinder Singh Lovely has resigned from the post of Delhi Chief Minister. However, he did not resign from the party. Still, his resignation in the run-up to the polls is seen as a major blow to the Congress.

It is known that he resigned in anger because of the alliance of the Congress with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Delhi.

On Sunday morning, Arvinder Singh Lovely said that he is resigning from the post of president of Delhi branch of Congress. He said that he could not protect the interests of Congress workers in Delhi.

Lovely said that many AAP ministers have been jailed on corruption charges. Yet the Congress formed an alliance with them for the Lok Sabha elections amid opposition from party workers. Therefore, he does not see any reason to remain in the post of party president.

Arvinder Singh Lovely is a long-time Congress leader. He joined BJP once in the middle of 2017. He returned to the Congress within a few months. Lovely is known as a staunch opponent of the Aam Aadmi Party.
