Colombo: Sri Lanka’s Ports, Shipping, and Aviation Minister, Nimal Siripala de Silva, has highlighted the significance of the upcoming 2023 Global Maritime Summit, scheduled to take place in Mumbai, India, from October 17 to 19. Speaking at a conference organized by the High Commission of India in Sri Lanka, Minister de Silva emphasized that this summit presents a unique opportunity to address the maritime challenges that Sri Lanka faces on the global stage.

The conference held at the Taj Samudra Hotel in Colombo on Saturday, September 23, served as a platform to inform the Sri Lankan business community and stakeholders engaged in the naval and maritime sector about the forthcoming summit. During his address, Minister de Silva expressed his gratitude to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Indian government for extending this opportunity to Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka, being strategically located in the Indian Ocean, has made significant strides in the realm of merchant shipping. Minister de Silva stressed the importance of implementing special security measures for ships navigating the Indian Ocean region, given its vital role in global trade. Sri Lanka is poised to contribute to the maritime discourse by submitting a series of proposals during the 2023 Global Maritime Summit.
