Modi has no time to visit troubled Manipur, goes to Kuwait

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is unable to find time to visit troubled Manipur. Despite one after another violent incident, Modi is silent on Manipur. Ignoring the calls of the opposition and dismissing criticism, he went to Kuwait on a state visit.
Today is the second day of this 2-day visit at the invitation of the Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. During this time, he will hold a series of programs like signing bilateral agreements and a football tournament.
On Saturday, Modi visited the Gulf Speak Labor Camp in the Mina Abdullah area of Kuwait, where about 1500 Indian expatriate workers are located.
In 1981, the then Prime Minister of India Indira Gandhi visited Kuwait. After that, no Indian Prime Minister has visited Qatar. With Modi’s visit, an Indian Prime Minister has set foot on Kuwaiti soil for the first time in 43 years.
Indian Foreign Ministry official Arun Kumar Chatterjee said that the Prime Minister’s visit is historic. It will open a new chapter between the two countries. Discussions will be held on trade, industry, defense, etc.
Before leaving for Kuwait on Saturday, Modi said that he was excited about the visit. The Crown Prince of Kuwait is looking forward to meeting the Prime Minister.
According to Indian media outlet Anandabazar, India is at the top of the list of top trading partners in Kuwait. In addition, a large part of the country’s population is expatriate Indians. 30 percent of Kuwait’s workforce is Indian. Kuwait is sixth in the list of crude oil suppliers to India.
Meanwhile, the opposition Congress party has criticized Modi’s visit to Kuwait. It has also brought up the issue of Manipur. They have questioned why he is not going to restive Manipur. Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said in this regard that Modi is not able to find a date for the people of Manipur. However, he has time to meet the Crown Prince of Kuwait.
