New Jersey General Assembly Honors Bangladeshi Journalist Karamot Ullah Biplob

Paterson, NJ – The New Jersey General Assembly has honored Karamot Ullah Biplob, a distinguished Bangladeshi journalist, for his groundbreaking reporting and research on climate change. The award was presented on Monday, January 20, 2024, during a ceremony in Paterson City by Senator Benjie E. Wimberly.
The recognition highlights Mr. Biplob’s work in shedding light on the devastating effects of climate change, particularly in South Asia. A report authored by General Assembly Speaker Craig J. Coughlin cited Mr. Biplob’s investigative focus on displaced populations as a crucial contribution to understanding the broader impacts of global warming.
Senator Wimberly emphasized that climate change poses a grave threat not only to South Asia but also to developed nations in Europe and North America. “Climate change knows no borders, and its effects are increasingly felt worldwide,” he stated. The senator also reiterated the New Jersey General Assembly’s commitment to supporting journalism that advances public welfare.

The event was attended by prominent community leaders, including Enam Chowdhury, Publisher of Asian Post USA, and Chowdhury Hasin Farah, Director of Channel 52 USA. Their presence underscored the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing climate-related challenges.
Mr. Biplob, who serves as the Secretary General of the South Asian Climate Change Journalist Forum (SACCJF), has been engaged in an extensive climate-related fellowship across various U.S. states over the past two months. The fellowship aims to explore and develop strategies for rehabilitating individuals affected by natural disasters such as floods, hurricanes, blizzards, and wildfires.
This recognition from New Jersey follows another recent accolade for Mr. Biplob. Last month, he received special recognition from the state of New York during an event in Buffalo, further cementing his reputation as a leading voice in climate journalism.
Mr. Biplob’s work continues to resonate globally, inspiring policymakers and communities alike to prioritize climate action and support for those displaced by environmental crises.
