Nipah virus under control in Kerala, restrictions eased in containment zones
With the Nipah situation in Kerala's Kozhikodi under control, the District Disaster Management Department has announced relaxations in the containment zones of nine panchayats.
New Delhi: With the Nipah situation under control, the District Disaster Management Department has announced relaxations in the containment zones of nine panchayats in Kerala’s Kozhikode districts.
Shops and establishments in these containment zones can now be operated as per Nipah protocol till 8 pm. All banks in these containment zones can function till 2 pm. However, masks and sanitisers must be used, social distancing must be followed and gatherings must be strictly controlled.
Other restrictions will continue till further order. The Kozhikode District Collector informed that those on the contact list and under observation should follow strict restrictions and remain in quarantine until the period prescribed by the Health Department.
No fresh cases of Nipah have been reported in the state since September 16. 218 samples of people on the high-risk contact list turned up negative for the virus, the Kerala government said on Monday.
Meanwhile, Kerala Health Minister Veena George and Public Affairs Minister PA Muhammad Riyas will hold a meeting with the representatives of wards where strict restrictions. Education Minister Sivankutty will hold a meeting on Tuesday to discuss the conducting of online classes.
The restrictions have been eased in 53 wards and panchayats in Kozhikode district.
