Nobel laureate Malala returns to Pakistan

The world’s youngest Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai is coming to Pakistan to attend a two-day International Conference on Women’s Education in Islamabad as a special guest. The country’s Education Secretary Mohiuddin Ahmed Wani said that she will return to the country after attending the conference to be held on January 11 and 12.
The conference, titled ‘Girls’ Education in the Muslim Community: Challenges and Opportunities’, aims to highlight the challenges and prospects for improving girls’ education in the Muslim community, encourage discussion and find effective solutions.
According to a government statement, the conference will provide an ideal platform for high-level discussions and cooperation. Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif will address the inaugural session as the keynote speaker. In his speech, he will reiterate the nation’s commitment to promoting girls’ education and gender equality.
The statement said, “The event will be attended by more than 150 international dignitaries, including ministers, ambassadors, educators from 44 Muslim and friendly countries, and representatives of international organizations including UNESCO, UNICEF, and the World Bank.”
On the last day of the conference, an agreement called the Islamabad Declaration will be signed, in which the Muslim community will reaffirm its commitment to empowering girls and inclusive and sustainable education reforms.
At a press conference, Federal Education Minister Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui said that the education ministers and chief ministers of the four provinces will also participate in the conference. He said, “We value the traditions of Afghan society and have also invited the Afghan government to participate in the conference. We are still far behind in terms of education and employment.”
Malala last visited Pakistan in October 2022. Then she visited the flood-affected areas of the country.
