Pineapple diplomacy: Saha sends goodwill gift to B’desh PM

Agartala: As a goodwill gesture, Tripura CM Manik Saha sent 500kg of queen pineapples to Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina through the Agartala-Akhaura integrated check post on Sunday.

The directorate of horticulture sent the consignment of pineapples to the assistant high commission at Chittagong.

“At the behest of CM Manik Saha, we have sent 500kg of queen pineapples to Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina in 100 packets.Each packet contains six pineapples weighing 750 grams each,” said Dipak Baidya, assistant director of horticulture and soil conservation.

Stating that India and Bangladesh share a deep bond, Baidya said, “Exchanging gifts helps reinforce our relationship. Today we have sent queen pineapples, which are considered among the finest in the world, to strengthen our ties.”

Last year too, the CM had sent pineapples to the Bangladesh PM, and Hasina reciprocated by sending mangoes to Saha. The queen pineapple of Tripura was recently accorded the GI tag.

Besides Indian cities, these pineapples and scented lemons of the state have found a market in Europe and the Middle East for the last five years.

Tripura CM Manik Saha sent pineapples to Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina, showcasing warmth and friendly relations between the two nations.

PM Sheikh Hasina to visit India on 21-22 June 2024 at PM Modi’s invitation, first bilateral visit after 18th Lok Sabha elections. She will meet President Droupadi Murmu, VP Jagdeep Dhankhar, and EAM S Jaishankar.
