President of Iran Ibrahim Raisi in Sri Lanka

After a three-day visit to Pakistan, Iran’s President Ibrahim Raisi has left for Sri Lanka.

He arrived at Sri Lanka’s capital Colombo airport on Wednesday. Through his visit, after 16 years, an Iranian head of state and government stepped on the territory of Sri Lanka.

Before this, the country’s then President Mahmud Ahmadinejad visited Sri Lanka last in 2008. Raisi will also inaugurate a hydropower project there in addition to meeting with the President and government officials of Sri Lanka during this short visit.

Raisi went to Colombo to inaugurate the hydroelectric project, which cost a total of 514 million dollars.

In 2010, Tehran signed an agreement with the then government of Sri Lanka regarding the establishment of this hydropower project.
