A suicide bombing occurred in the southern city of Kandahar in Afghanistan. At least three people were killed and 12 others injured.

The explosion occurred outside a bank in the city on Thursday (March 21), AFP reported.

Director of Information and Culture of Kandahar Province Inamullah Samangani said, “According to preliminary information, three Afghan citizens were killed and 12 injured in a suicide attack in the city of Kandahar around 8 am local time.”

The blast targeted a group of people waiting outside the New Kabul Bank branch in Kandahar.

Samangani said, “The victims are civilians. Usually everyone gathers there to collect salary.’

The Taliban ended their insurgency after ousting the US-backed government in August 2021. Since then, the number of bombings and suicide attacks in Afghanistan has decreased significantly. However, threats from ISIS and several armed groups remain.
