US Congressman calls for release of 'unjustly imprisoned' Imran

US Congressman Joe Wilson has called for the release of former Pakistani Prime Minister and PTI founder Imran Khan. He said that Imran Khan’s release will further strengthen US-Pakistan relations.

Wilson made this call in a separate letter addressed to Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Army Chief General Asim Munir on Sunday.

This information was reported in a report by Pakistani media Geo News today.

According to the report, the US Congressman referred to Imran Khan’s imprisonment in his letter as ‘unjust detention’. He said that democracy works only when political opponents are defeated politically, not by putting them in prison.

According to him, the Pakistani army is undermining democracy and thus fundamentally weakening a state.

Wilson also said that he will also discuss the issue with President Trump’s administration.

Wilson had earlier told a meeting of the US Congress that Pakistan’s military is undermining democracy. And keeping Imran Khan in prison is the biggest example of this.

According to him, Pakistan should restore democracy by releasing Imran Khan.

During this speech, he showed pictures of the leaders of North Korea, Iran, Russia and China and compared them with the current situation in Pakistan.

Meanwhile, Wilson’s statement has received a huge response from the supporters of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), who are vocal in favor of Imran Khan’s release.

However, according to critics, the relationship between the United States and Pakistan has been closer during the military regime and in some cases, the relationship was cold during the democratic regime.

Now it remains to be seen what the response will be to this letter and statement given by the US administration and how the Pakistani government will react.
