With the victory of Muijju's team, Maldives-China is closer, India is 'concerned'!

President Mohamed Muijju’s People’s National Congress (PNC) has won a landslide victory in the parliamentary elections in Maldives. And since his party’s victory, discussions have started in the international political arena. Analysts say the election results will help distance the island nation from its longtime ally India and bring it closer to China.

After the People’s National Congress won the presidential election in Maldives, analysts had already assumed that India’s influence on the country might decrease. And President Mohamed Muijju made that idea come true. After gaining power, India started taking various steps along with the withdrawal of the army. In the meantime, he has increased closeness with China.

Following this, Muijju’s party also won in the country’s parliament. According to various international media, this year’s parliament election in Maldives became the center of attraction for two reasons. The first of these is that the election was creating an environment to test the acceptability of Muijju’s anti-India stance and pro-China policy to the Maldivian people.

The second reason is that, despite the fact that Mohamed Muijzu is president, he does not have a majority in the country’s parliament, and his three nominees are blocked from joining the cabinet due to objections from opposition lawmakers. The opposition also objected to the passage of several bills proposed by Muijju.
However, analysts believe that it will be easier for the ruling party to make a decision by winning the parliamentary elections this time.

On the other hand, the election in Maldives was seen as a test of Muijju’s plan to increase economic cooperation with China. After assuming the responsibility of the President, he visited Beijing. During the visit, he met with Chinese President Xi Jinping and high-level officials of the country.

It is expected to have a significant impact on the country’s foreign policy, particularly its relations with India and China. In addition, the victory of the Muijju alliance will increase the closeness of the Maldives with China, which may affect the strategic balance in the Indian Ocean region.
