Yunus-Modi meeting likely in November: Bangladesh Foreign Adviser

Chief advisor. The first bilateral meeting between Muhammad Yunus and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi may be held in November, said the foreign adviser. Touhid Hossain.

He informed this information in a press briefing on Tuesday afternoon.

The foreign adviser said the first bilateral meeting between the two leaders is expected to take place during the BIMSTEC summit to be held in Thailand next month.

Chief advisor. Muhammad Yunus is expected to attend the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) summit. The conference was initially planned to be held on September 4. But later the event was postponed.

Thailand is going to host the organization’s next summit, where Bangladesh will take over as the next chairman of BIMSTEC.

When asked about the outcome of his meeting with Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar during the UNGA session, Tauhid Hossain said both sides reiterated the importance of maintaining strong ties between Bangladesh and India. We agree that establishing good relations between our two countries is very important for both Bangladesh and India.

The Foreign Adviser mentioned that the two sides also discussed the normalization of the visa process for Bangladeshi citizens traveling to India.

Tauhid Hossain also said, “He (Jaishankar) expressed hope that the visa system will be resumed soon.” They reviewed the internal security situation in Bangladesh.

He said, “I assured him – the security situation has improved significantly and no other foreign country has expressed concern in recent times.”

Since the fall of the Awami League government on August 5, since the ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina fled the country and took refuge in India, relations between Dhaka and New Delhi have been strained.
