Maldives signs agreement with China for road construction projects

Male: The Maldives has signed a Letter of Exchange (LOE) with China for the construction of roads in Male’ and Villimale’.

The road construction project in Male’ and Villimale’ was agreed upon during President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s first official visit to China. The Chinese government has committed $130 million in free aid to support the project.

The project agreement was signed at a ceremony in China on Tuesday. Infrastructure Minister Dr. Abdulla Muthalib signed the agreement on behalf of the Maldives, while Luo Zhaohui, Chairman of China International Development Corporation, signed on behalf of China.

According to the Infrastructure Ministry, the project will begin with feasibility studies, followed by the implementation phase.

Minister Muthalib, along with two other Maldivian ministers, is currently in China to discuss the economic situation in the Maldives and explore financial and investment opportunities with Chinese authorities.
