Mangoes have been sent to Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal, Thiruvananthapuram Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, Samajwadi Party MPs Mohibullah Nadvi, Ziaur Rahman Barg and Ikra Hasan and Gazipur MP Afzal Ansari on behalf of Pakistan Embassy.
Attacking Rahul on this, Giriraj said, “A few days ago, Rahul Gandhi said that he does not like mangoes from Uttar Pradesh.” Pakistan embassy has now sent mangoes to Rahul Gandhi. So now Rahul should say what other things he doesn’t like.” After that, Giriraj alleged that Rahul is trying to get Pakistan’s help to remove Prime Minister Modi from power.
He said, “Rahul Gandhi should say whether he asked Pakistan for anything to remove Modi.”
BJP MP Anurag Thakur also took a swipe at Rahul on the issue. He said, “Rahul does not like Uttar Pradesh mangoes. But he seems quite excited about the mangoes from Pakistan. BJP’s Amit Malviya also attacked the opposition. He questioned why mangoes were sent to opposition MPs selectively.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath recently sent mangoes to BJP leaders including Prime Minister Modi and some Chief Ministers. In this regard now a senior official said, leaders of other parties do not like Uttar Pradesh mangoes.
Although mangoes have long been used as diplomatic weapons. Pakistan has sent mangoes to India before. In 2015, then Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif sent mangoes to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Apart from Modi, Pakistan also sent mangoes to then President Pranab Mukherjee and Congress President Sonia Gandhi. Apart from this, the former Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina, used to send mangoes to Prime Minister Modi almost every year. He also sent mangoes to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and former Congress President Sonia Gandhi.
