Latest status of Manipur

After two days of clashes between students and security forces in India’s Manipur, there were no fresh reports of clashes as of Wednesday morning, although local journalists reported tensions in the capital Imphal.

He said that joint patrolling of central and state security forces is going on in the streets.

The central government is sending two thousand more members of the central security forces to ensure security in the state.

Curfew has been imposed in Imphal East and Imphal West districts from Tuesday. At night, first in the entire state, then the government changed the order and stopped the internet service in five districts.

Clashes broke out between student agitators and security forces near Raj Bhavan, the governor’s residence, on Tuesday afternoon. The students were marching towards the Raj Bhavan demanding the removal of the State Security Adviser and the State Director General of Police.

At least 55 students have been injured and admitted to hospital in the clash, reported news agency PTI.

A statement issued from the Raj Bhavan in the night said that a delegation of students met the Governor and presented their demand certificate.

Schools and colleges in the state have been declared closed on Wednesday and Thursday due to student protests.

News agency PTI says security forces are conducting a massive search operation in Kangpokpi district. A large number of weapons have been recovered, PTI reported.

From the beginning of September, renewed violence broke out between the Meitei and Kuki communities of Manipur. State police say the situation became heated after alleged Kuki armed groups started dropping bombs via drones in the Meitei area.
