US bans 11 drugs made in India

The US has banned the import of 11 drugs made in the Indian factory of US pharmaceutical company Viatrix.

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has recently issued a warning letter in this regard.

The Indian media Hindustan Times reported this information in a report.

The report said that the sudden imposition of the ban has created a fear of shortage of the relevant drugs in the market. To deal with the situation, the FDA has conditionally approved the import of four drugs.

US officials visited the Viatrix drug manufacturing factory located in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, India. During the inspection, it was found that the drugs were not being manufactured according to US regulations. However, it is not clear which regulations were violated.

Meanwhile, Viatrix has informed that the US FDA has issued a warning letter regarding the drugs manufactured in the Indore factory. No detailed information has been given about this.

Viatris’ statement said that until the warning letter issued for those 11 drugs is withdrawn by the FDA, those drugs cannot be imported into the US.

However, it is not yet clear which 11 drugs the FDA has issued this warning letter for.

Viatris said that they have already responded to the letter issued by the FDA. In addition, they have taken adequate measures at the Indore factory. Viatris has also appointed a third-party company to ensure that the rules are not violated.

Viatris was born in 2020 as a merger of a company under Mylan and Pfizer. They manufacture drugs at 4 locations in India. The company manufactures various antibacterial, diabetic, and cardiovascular therapy drugs.
