Australian Governor-General Samantha Mostyn Arrives in Sri Lanka for High-Level Bilateral Visit

Colombo, August 6: Governor-General of Australia Samantha Joy Mostyn arrived in Sri Lanka this afternoon for a three-day official visit, following an invitation from President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
Upon her arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), Governor-General Mostyn was warmly received by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism, Vijitha Herath, along with other senior government officials.
During her stay, the Governor-General is scheduled to hold key bilateral talks with President Dissanayake and Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya. The discussions will center on strengthening diplomatic ties, deepening economic and development cooperation, and exploring new avenues for mutual collaboration between Australia and Sri Lanka.
Governor-General Mostyn will also tour several development sites in Bandaragama, Mirissa, and Weligama, where Australian-supported projects are underway. These visits aim to highlight Australia’s ongoing commitment to Sri Lanka’s development and people-to-people links.
This visit marks another significant step in the growing partnership between the two nations. It follows a series of recent high-level exchanges, including the visit of Australian Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Richard Marles to Sri Lanka, and a meeting between Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong and Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath in Malaysia.
The visit is expected to reinforce the strong and enduring ties between Australia and Sri Lanka, and lay the groundwork for expanded cooperation in areas such as education, trade, maritime security, and climate resilience.
