Dhaka, November 8, 2023 – In a compelling prelude to the impending national elections, a high-profile delegation from the Bangladesh Awami League is embarking on a mission to China, following an invitation from the ruling Communist Party of China. The visit is more than just a diplomatic exchange; it’s a pivotal event that holds the potential to reshape the political dynamics of Bangladesh.

At the helm of this diplomatic entourage is Muhammad Farooq Khan MP, a distinguished member of the Awami League presidium. Joining him are prominent figures from the central Awami League international affairs sub-committee, including the former convener of China Awami League, Mr. Tarun Kanti Das Kanti, as well as Khaled Masud Ahmed and Suman Kundu, both active members of the international affairs sub-committee.

Awami League International Affairs Secretary, Shammi Ahmed, revealed that the delegation will set off from Dhaka to China on November 8, departing around 3 pm. While the delegation’s leader, Muhammad Farooq Khan, is expected to return to Bangladesh on November 12, the remaining trio will conclude their visit on November 14.

During their stay in China, the Awami League delegation is slated to engage in crucial bilateral meetings with China’s ruling party leaders. These discussions will encompass a broad spectrum of contemporary political issues, with the Rohingya crisis poised to take center stage in the dialogue.

This marks the second time that Awami League representatives have ventured to China this year. In May, a 17-member delegation, under the leadership of Muhammad Farooq Khan, visited China, returning home at the end of the month. Subsequently, in July, a 12-member delegation from the 14-party alliance, spearheaded by Awami League, undertook a similar journey to China. The visit was led by Rashed Khan Menon, President of the Workers’ Party, and featured other notable political luminaries, such as Hasanul Haque Inu, President of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (Jasad), and Dilip Barua, General Secretary of Samyavadi Dal.

These diplomatic overtures underscore the growing significance of international relations in shaping Bangladesh’s political landscape as the nation stands on the brink of a crucial election year.
