Donald Lu's visit to Dhaka: The office will discuss strengthening economic relations

US State Department Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asia Donald Lu will visit India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh from May 10 to 15. His visit aims to strengthen bilateral cooperation with each country and demonstrate US support for a free, open and prosperous Indo-Pacific region. Donald Lu will end his tri-nation tour in Dhaka.

There were speculations about why Lu, who had visited Dhaka several times before, was coming back to Bangladesh.

Finally, the matter was opened by the US State Department. In a statement on Thursday, he will discuss US-Bangladesh cooperation, including dealing with the climate crisis and deepening economic ties, with government officials, civil society leaders and other Bangladeshis in Dhaka.

However, the Rohingya crisis will be given importance in Donald Lu’s upcoming visit, Bangladesh Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud said. He said this in response to a question from journalists at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday. Hasan Mahmud said that other issues will definitely be discussed.
