India slips 5 places in the list of the most powerful passports
India has slipped 5 places in the list of the most powerful passports in the world in 2025. This information has been revealed in the latest updated statistics according to the Henley Passport Index. Last time, India was at number 80 on the list. Currently, India is at 85th position, down 5 places.
This was reported by Hindustan Times in a report.
In the last two decades, the ranking of India’s passport has fluctuated significantly. In 2006, India was at 71st place, but it continued to deteriorate from 2015 to 2021. In particular, India fell to 90th place in 2021.
Singapore tops the list. Its passport holders can enter 195 countries without a visa. On the other hand, an Indian passport holder can travel visa-free to 57 countries.
However, Indian authorities claim that various initiatives are being taken to address this situation, which will help improve the passport ranking in the future.
Indian passport holders can travel to Nepal, Bhutan and some Caribbean countries without a visa, but India’s gap with the top countries is widening. The Indian passport generally ranks lower than other top passports, such as Singapore, Japan, and South Korea, which allow passport holders to enter more than 190 countries without a visa.
While many countries around the world have taken steps to increase visa-free access to India, some countries have tightened visa procedures for Indian citizens, making international travel more difficult for Indian passport holders.
