Jigme Pelden Dorje becomes first Bhutanese to conquer Mt. Everest

KATHMANDU: Royal Bhutan Army Lieutenant Jigme Pelden Dorje has become the first Bhutanese to summit the world’s highest mountain, Mt. Everest.

He reached the summit at 9:30 am today, accompanied by his guide Chakra Rai and the support team, according to the Pioneer Adventure Pvt Ltd who managed the expedition.Jigme and his team had left Everest Base Camp for the higher elevations on May 16.

“Standing on the top of Everest fills me with immense pride as a Bhutanese. This climb is a tribute to my country, our monarch, and our enduring spirit of exploration,” Jigme shared after his successfull summit.Pasang Sherpa, Chairman of Pioneer Adventure Pvt Ltd, expressed his pride, saying, “We are delighted to have been part of Jigme’s historic climb.
