Maldives-India executes MoUs for additional 10 projects

Male: The governments of Maldives and India have executed Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) to carry out 10 additional projects in the Maldives with the Indian government’s assistance.

The MoUs were signed during a special ceremony held at the Maldivian Foreign Ministry on Sunday afternoon as part of Indian State Minister for External Affairs V. Muraleedharan’s ongoing official visit to the Maldives.

Muraleedharan and Maldivian Foreign Minister Abdul Shahid presided over the signing of the MoUs which were signed by Maldivian State Minister for Foreign Affairs Ahmed Khaleel and the Indian High Commissioner to the Maldives Munu Mahawar.

The MoUs pertain to the development of an arts centre in Male’, development of a running track in Sh. Milandhoo, construction of a new council office at Lh. Hinnavaru, establishment of a mental health unit at Abdul Samad Memorial Hospital, procurement of four school buses for Fuvahmulah City Kulhudhuffushi City, N. Kendhikulhudhoo and L. Gan, development of outdoor gyms at Addu City’s Hithadhoo Beyrumathi Dhaairaa, Hithadhoo Rasgedhara Dhaairaa, GDh. Vaadhoo, and HA. Dhidhdhoo, school digitalization program at L. Atoll Education Centre.

All these projects will be financed from the additional USD 100 million line of credit granted to the Maldives by the Indian government for high-impact community development projects back in October last year.

During the ceremony, Minister Shahid and State Minister Muraleedharan also witnessed the gifting of Anti-TB medication from the Indian government to the Health Ministry of Maldives. The Anti-TB medication was received by the Director General of Public Health, Maimoona Aboobakuru.
