Political unrest: Nawaz Sharif agrees to hold talks with PTI

The possibility of talks between the ruling Pakistani government and the PTI to end the recent political unrest has advanced. The country’s media outlet Geo News reported on Saturday (December 21) that Muslim League (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif may agree to hold talks with his long-time political rival and PTI founder Imran Khan.

Although no formal talks have started yet despite statements in favor of dialogue. However, PTI and government sources said that all parties recognize the need for dialogue.

Pakistan has seen intense protests and political violence in the past few weeks over the release of former Prime Minister Imran Khan. Pakistan’s economy is reeling from political stagnation. The prospect of starting a dialogue between Imran Khan’s party, PTI, and the government to end the ongoing dispute may provide some relief to the people of the country.

Earlier on Tuesday (December 11), The Express Tribune reported that PTI leader Asad Qaiser has already contacted National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq to participate in the dialogue.

Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has a great influence in Pakistani politics. The progress of any dialogue will depend on his indication or approval. Earlier, his daughter and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz had rejected the possibility of dialogue with PTI. At that time, she called PTI a disruptive party. However, this time a senior PML-N leader has confirmed that Nawaz may agree to dialogue with Imran Khan this time.
