Kabul: In a recent update, the spokesman for the Islamic Emirate, Zabiullah Mujahid, announced that efforts are underway for the formation of a constitution in Afghanistan. However, he emphasized that prioritizing improvements in governance and the economic conditions of citizens is essential before establishing the constitutional framework.

Mujahid stated, “There are some priorities which we need to do until we reach a phase where the grounds for the constitution are paved.” This assertion underscores the Islamic Emirate’s commitment to addressing pressing issues and laying a solid foundation for the constitutional process.

Amidst these developments, Afghan legal analysts gathered in Geneva expressed the urgent need for a constitution in Afghanistan, citing the legitimacy and popularity of the 2004 constitution. Nasratullah Rahimi Nabil, a legal analyst, highlighted ongoing work with human rights groups and the importance of constitutional guidance in shaping domestic and foreign policies.

Concerns were voiced over the absence of a constitution in the country. Abdul Shokor Dadras, another legal analyst, emphasized, “When there is no constitution, it means that there is no domestic and foreign policy of a country. The fundamental rights of the people are not ensured, and the type of government is not clear.”

Earlier statements from Mujahid suggested that upon completing the constitution and establishing a council, the official cabinet of the Islamic Emirate would be announced. The unfolding developments in Afghanistan’s political landscape continue to draw international attention as the nation navigates the path towards constitutional governance.
