Ulaanbaatar: In a celebration of diplomacy and cultural exchange, Their Majesties, accompanied by Their Royal Highnesses Gyalsey Jigme Namgyel and Gyalsey Ugyen Wangchuck, were warmly received by Mongolia’s President Khurelsukh Ukhnaa and First Lady Bolortsetseg Luvsandorj in Ulaanbaatar on July 9, 2024. The visit commenced with a grand honor guard ceremony at Sukhbaatar Square, the symbolic heart of Mongolia’s capital.
Following the ceremonial welcome, Their Majesties joined President Khurelsukh and First Lady Bolortsetseg at the central statue of Chinggis Khaan to pay homage to the revered founder of the Mongol Empire.
The visit continued with significant diplomatic engagements. His Majesty The King met with President Khurelsukh in the State Ceremonial Ger, while Her Majesty held a separate meeting with the First Lady at the State Palace. The discussions culminated in the signing of several Memoranda of Understanding aimed at bolstering ties and fostering collaboration between Bhutan and Mongolia.
The Speaker of the Mongolian Parliament hosted a luncheon in honor of Their Majesties, attended by notable figures including the Mongolian Foreign Minister and other key officials. This event provided an opportunity for informal dialogue and further strengthening of bilateral relations.
In the afternoon, Their Majesties, alongside Their Royal Highnesses, visited the Gandantegchinlen Monastery, a site renowned for its 26-meter statue of Chenrezi. The royal family participated in a spiritual offering and prayer session at the monastery’s temples, reflecting their deep respect for Mongolian culture and religious heritage.
Furthering their engagement with international diplomacy, His Majesty visited the International Think Tank for Landlocked Countries at the UN House. There, he met with the Executive Director and other heads of international organizations, led by the UN Resident Coordinator in Mongolia, to discuss key global issues affecting landlocked nations.
The day concluded with a State Banquet hosted by President Khurelsukh, honoring Their Majesties and celebrating the deepening friendship between Bhutan and Mongolia. This visit marks a significant moment in the bilateral relations between the two countries, highlighting their commitment to cooperation and mutual respect.
