Royal Appointments in Bhutan: Drangpons, General Secretaries, and Chief of Protocol

Thimphu: In a significant move reinforcing Bhutan’s commitment to governance and protocol, His Majesty The King granted dhar (royal edict) to make several key appointments. These appointments include Drangpons (judges) for the Supreme Court and High Court, the Secretary General of the National Assembly, the Secretary General of the National Council, and the Zhung Dronyer (Chief of Protocol).

Drangpon Kinley Dorji, previously serving as a Drangpon in the High Court, has been appointed to the esteemed position of Drangpon in the Supreme Court. Meanwhile, Drangpon Kinley Namgay, who had been serving as the Chief Judge of Paro District Court, now assumes the role of Drangpon in the High Court.

Duba, who previously held the position of Director at the Bhutan Qualifications and Professionals Certification Authority (BQPCA), has been entrusted with the responsibility of Secretary General of the National Assembly. Concurrently, Tenzin Thinley, who was officiating as Secretary General of the National Council, has been officially appointed as the Secretary General of the National Council.

Another notable appointment is that of Ugen Chozom, who previously served as the Chief of Protocol Affairs Division and officiated as the head of the Department of Protocol and Consular Services in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade. Ugen Chozom now holds the esteemed position of Zhung Dronyer, the Chief of Protocol.

These appointments reflect Bhutan’s dedication to maintaining an efficient and well-structured governance system while upholding the principles of justice, protocol, and professionalism.
