"India is well aware of the government’s commitment for free and fair election. We will raise the issue to other foreign diplomats who do not have missions in Bangladesh,"
Dhaka’s Foreign Secretary, Masud Bin Momen, is scheduled to depart for New Delhi on Thursday, leading the Bangladesh delegation for foreign secretary-level talks with his Indian counterpart on Friday. The diplomatic engagement comes at a crucial time for Bangladesh, as the country gears up for its general election scheduled for January 7.
In a briefing with reporters at his office on Wednesday, Foreign Secretary Momen highlighted the significance of the upcoming talks and emphasized that the discussions with India would occur amidst the preparations for the forthcoming general election. He expressed the intention to provide insight into Bangladesh’s commitment to ensuring a free and fair electoral process.
Notably, on the sidelines of the foreign secretary-level talks, Momen revealed plans to brief diplomats from 90 countries that currently do not maintain missions in Bangladesh. The diplomatic outreach aims to keep the international community, especially those without direct representation in Bangladesh, informed about the country’s electoral landscape.
“India is well aware of the government’s commitment for free and fair election. We will raise the issue to other foreign diplomats who do not have missions in Bangladesh,” stated Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen, underlining Bangladesh’s commitment to transparent and democratic electoral processes.
The agenda for the talks includes discussions on the upcoming general election and the Election Commission’s preparations for it. The delegation accompanying Foreign Secretary Momen comprises officials from the Home Ministry, Shipping Ministry, and Commerce Ministry, reflecting the multifaceted nature of the bilateral discussions.
This meeting marks the second secretary-level interaction between Bangladesh and India this year, signifying the ongoing commitment to open lines of communication and cooperation between the two neighboring nations. As the diplomatic dialogue unfolds in New Delhi, it is anticipated to foster understanding and collaboration on various issues of mutual interest.
